My Brother's Dorky Sis

I am a middle child. As much fun as this is to complain about, it actually was a good position to be in while growing up. I was old enough to play with big brother when he'd let me, and not too old to have a lot of similarities with little sister. It was great, and is great, to have an older sibling to look up to. I do this a lot.

My brother and I have established a pattern. Well, I guess I have established a pattern that involves my brother. Here it is:
1. Have no music/CDs that I feel like listening to for several weeks on end.
2. Talk to, hear from, correspond with, or visit my brother.
3. Listen to whatever he has been listening to lately.
4. Purchase CD(s) of said music and slightly obsess over it/them for a few weeks.
5. Two options: Add CD to CD colllection and forget about for it several months/years, or listen to CDs frequently as part of favorite CDs collection kept in car (this is the more popular option).

The highlights that come to mind (yea, I'd give you some links, but I just haven't figured that out yet):
Queen - this was the start of the pattern. Found a tape in is car during high school and I was hooked. I got him a few more Queen CDs for birthdays/xmas until he told me to stop.
Ben Folds Five - by far, the biggest influence on the list. He introduced me to "Whatever and Ever Amen" while visiting me in college and I've been hooked ever since. Never living in the same state, we still managed to see them live together.
Republica - I visited him in Hawaii, where this CD was in his car. This one fell into the "forget about for several years" option, but I should give it a listen again.
Weezer - Baby and I vistied him in Texas this fall, where a few of their CDs were playing in his car. Since I've actually been writing possible blog entries in my head for a month now, I will have a Weezer-related entry soon.

With the exception of Queen, I'm figuring that a lot of the pattern is due to the fact that big brother and I never seem to be living in the same part of the country at the same time. We were both frequent movers until a few years ago. This music, besides just being very good music to listen to, reminds me of him and the fun we have in our limited time together.

I'm curious what he'll be listening to at Christmas time. I haven't bought a CD in a while.

All or Nothing

Finally! I have started to create my blog. It's something that I have been wanting to do for some time, but kept putting off for some reason or another. The joke with people that know me is, of course, that I will never get it done. This is mostly because I don't seem to do things unless I can do them just right (perfectly, although I don't think you could apply that to blogging - at least I wouldn't know how). So the challenge to myself was this alone: get it started. It doesn't have to be what I've imagined, it doesn't need to be beautifully written, I just need it to serve the purpose that I intended it for (note to self - don't forget to blog later about why you're blogging, someone might actually be reading this and want to know).

So hopefully, now that I've started, I won't be scared away by the thought of imperfection. Having no "right' way to do things, being able to just say what's on my mind. And if you didn't think I was going to get started, I guess I've surprised both of us!
